President Museveni Commends Late Umukuka Wamimbi’s Leadership Skills

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni delivered a heartfelt tribute to the late former Culture leader (Umukuka) of the Masaaba culture institution, Wilson Wamimbi Weyasa, during his burial ceremony in Busano Sub-county, Mbale district.

The ceremony, held on Saturday, saw dignitaries and community members gather to honor Wamimbi’s legacy.

In his eulogy, President Museveni described Wamimbi as a remarkable leader whose dedication to hard work and incorruptibility set a standard for the younger generation to follow. He reminisced about Wamimbi’s tenure as ambassador to Canada in the 1990s, attributing his appointment to his unwavering stance against corruption.

Wamimbi’s impact extended beyond his diplomatic service. As the former LCV of Mbale district, he spearheaded initiatives that led to Mbale being recognized as one of the well-performing and corruption-free districts in the country. President Museveni urged young politicians and leaders to emulate Wamimbi’s virtues, emphasizing the importance of integrity in public service.

Judi Mike Mudoma, the current culture leader of the Masaba culture institution, expressed gratitude to President Museveni for granting Wamimbi an official state burial. However, he raised concerns about the lack of representation for the Bugisu region in recent cabinet reshuffles, urging the president to address this issue.

John Musila, the member of parliament for Bubulo East constituency, echoed Mudoma’s sentiments, emphasizing the need for unity among Bugisu leaders to advocate for the region’s interests effectively.

Born in 1938 in Busano Sub-county, Mbale district, Wamimbi pursued his education at Nabumali High School before receiving training as a teacher at the former Uganda Polytechnic (now Kyambogo University) and as a marketer at Makerere University. He played a pivotal role in the Masaba culture institution, serving as its first Umukuka in 2010.

Wamimbi’s legacy as a leader of integrity and dedication to development will continue to inspire generations in Uganda, leaving an indelible mark on the Bugisu region and beyond.

The passing of Umukuka Wilson Wamimbi Weyasa marks the end of an era for the Bugisu region, but his legacy as a beacon of integrity and leadership will endure, serving as a guiding light for future generations of Ugandan leaders.
