93 Vehicles Seized for Illegal Sirens and One-Way Violations

The Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety has impounded 93 motor vehicles across several stations in Kampala today.

The impoundments took place at various locations including Wandegeya, Katwe, Kabalagala, Kajjansi, Kawempe, Jinja Road, Kiira Division, Kiira Road, and CPS.

The vehicles were seized due to illegal installations such as sirens, roof lights, modified lights, and violations of one-way traffic rules.

According to the traffics police spokesman Micheal Kananura,  statements from the drivers have been recorded, and they are expected to appear in court under the provisions of The Traffic and Road Safety Act 1998, as amended, and its regulations.

Kananura says that these operations will persist until all vehicles with similar violations are addressed. Drivers and owners of vehicles falling into the specified categories are strongly advised to comply and remove illegal modifications to avoid impoundment.

The traffic’s spokesperson reiterated the importance of adherence to traffic regulations to ensure road safety and compliance with the law.

The Traffic and Road Safety Act, 1998, Cap. 361 aims to strengthen road transport regulation and road safety management in Uganda. The Act was enacted in 1998 and in the course of operationalization of the Act, a number of technical hitches.
