Arua Man Captured on Video Assaulting Elderly Woman Arrested

Twalibu Avutia, a 51-year-old resident of Baruku cell, Baza ward, Arua central Division, has sparked outrage after a video emerged showing him viciously assaulting Teresa Angucia, a 65-year-old woman, at Manibe Trading Center along the Arua-Koboko road.

In the disturbing video, which went viral, Avutia was seen mercilessly whipping the elderly woman while a group of youths cheers him on. The incident occurred after Avutia accused Angucia of stealing his property that he had left by the roadside.

During the assault, Avutia stepped on the victim’s head as she cried out, pleading her innocence and begging him to stop.

Josephine Angucia, the Police Spokesperson for the West Nile region, confirmed that the incident took place around 1:40 pm at the bus stop stage near the Boda boda stage after Manibe Trading Center roundabout along the Arua-Koboko road. Angucia stated that the victim reported the matter to the police, leading to the arrest of the suspect, who is currently detained at Manibe police station.

According to a preliminary police report, the incident occurred when Avutia left his luggage containing food items at the bus stage under the watch of Boda Boda riders while he went to fetch his colleagues to travel to Maracha district. However, Angucia, who was expecting food items from Nebbi district, rushed to the same bus stop after receiving information that the items had arrived.

Upon finding the unattended items, Angucia assumed they were hers and took them home. When Avutia returned and realized the items were missing, he accused Angucia of theft, leading to the violent assault captured on video.
