The NPDP will be launched on Wednesday 17th April 2024 by the Vice president Rtd Maj Jesica Alupo

In her address to the media in Kampala, Minister of Lands housing and Urban Development Judith Nabakooba heralded the launch of the National Physical Development Plan (NPDP) as a pivotal moment for Uganda’s sustainable future. Emphasizing the importance of spatial planning, she highlighted how the NPDP provides a strategic framework for the efficient allocation, use, and management of the country’s land and natural resources.

Nabakooba underscored the NPDP’s role in guiding investments, infrastructure development, and the integration of urban and rural areas, all aimed at fostering robust and inclusive economic growth with social equity. She articulated the vision of the NPDP, rooted in sustainable development practices that benefit present and future generations.

Addressing the complexity of physical planning, Nabakooba stressed the need for a multi-dimensional perspective, incorporating market orientation, public-private sector partnerships, spatial integration, and equitable access to resources. She also emphasized the importance of environmental stability, people empowerment, and food security within the NPDP framework.

Highlighting the collaborative nature of implementation, the minister called upon all stakeholders, including government agencies, development partners, NGOs, civil society, and the general public, to join forces in ensuring the successful execution and sustainability of the NPDP. She emphasized the crucial role of coordination among ministries and agencies to align their activities with the spatial principles and strategies outlined in the plan.

The National physical development plan was approved by cabinet and gazzated in November 2023.

The NPDP will be launched on Wednesday 17th April 2024 by the Vice president Rtd Maj Jesica Alupo at the office of the President in Kampala.
