Government Launches Munoonye HIV Testing Campaign

It targets children and adolescents

The Ministry of Health, through the Munoonye HIV testing campaign, is poised to identify children and adolescents living with HIV who have not yet commenced treatment.

Dr. Diana Atwine, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, communicated this during the launch of the Munoonye HIV testing campaign, which received support from the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) at the Ministry’s headquarters in Kampala on April 12, 2024.

Atwine highlighted that the campaign’s scope will encompass over 10,000 children in Uganda.

She emphasized that the campaign aims to pinpoint the reasons behind the persisting mother-to-child transmission of HIV within communities.

Atwine stated, “The 95% target of this campaign can only be achieved if efforts are redoubled to identify why mother-to-child transmission of HIV still occurs in our communities and how this gap can be bridged.” PEPFAR, also known as the Emergency Plan, is a five-year bilateral commitment by the United States Government to support HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and treatment programs in developing countries.
