Youths Patriotism Training Addresses Impunity, Poverty
The Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, Hon. Balaam Barugahara, has urged the youth to steer clear of acts of impunity to become exemplary citizens of Uganda.
Congratulating the 830 students of Ntare School in Mbarara City who completed a seven-day patriotism training course, he advised against smoking, alcohol consumption, and premature romantic relationships.
Addressing students of Senior one and five, he encouraged those with small-scale businesses to engage with free revolving funds like the Youth Livelihood Programme (YLP).
“The President has tasked me with informing youths with groups or businesses in villages about government programs.
Seek guidance from your District Production Officer on accessing these funds, which don’t require land titles as security,” he advised. “With two guarantors, wisely utilize the funds to eradicate poverty from your lives, communities, and the nation.”
The YLP initiative, launched to combat escalating youth unemployment and poverty, has funded 458 projects in Kampala, benefitting over 5,000 youths since its inception in 2014.
Hellen Seku, Commissioner of the National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps (NSPC), commended stakeholders for allowing their children an extra seven days for training.
“I thank the head teacher, board of governors, and parents for organizing and permitting these patriots to stay at school. This displays a patriotic mindset,” said Seku.
She also thanked President Yoweri Museveni for promoting patriotism nationwide. Commending the trainees for their resilience, she urged them to love their country and reject societal ills.
“I applaud you for embracing the training like champions, the indomitable lions of Mbarara and Uganda. By doing so, you fulfill your constitutional duties as citizens,” she said. “Shun evils like corruption, sectarianism, tribalism, and religious differences, and unite for our collective greatness.”
