The Deputy RCC of Kimanya-Kabonera in Masaka district, Hajji Ahmed Kateregga Musaazi, has urged the youth in Masaka and Bukomansimbi to utilize the ongoing UCC skilling program in Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and Multimedia as a stepping stone to enhance their skills at the government industrial hub in Masaka city.

Speaking to over 100 youth undergoing training in ICTs and multimedia, Musaazi emphasized the importance of continuous learning, stating that utilizing ICTs for trading and marketing products does not necessarily require formal education.

He encouraged the youth to seize the opportunity provided by the UCC skilling program to upgrade their skills by joining the government-established industrial hub in Masaka city.

The industrial hub offers free training and skills development in various crafts for a duration of six months.

Musaazi urged the youth to embrace this opportunity to acquire new skills, create employment opportunities for themselves, and improve their livelihoods. He commended the UCC and Prime Time Communications Ltd for their efforts in skilling the youth, the majority of whom are unemployed, noting that the acquired skills would enable them to start and sustain their businesses. Musaazi highlighted the importance of using social media for productive purposes and urged the youth to leverage digital platforms to market their products globally.

Additionally, he emphasized the need for maintaining peace and order while marketing products and brands on various digital platforms, both locally and internationally.

The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) initiated a nationwide skilling program for youth groups in ICTs and multimedia, aimed at empowering them to grow their businesses through effective utilization of social media and digital platforms such as WhatsApp, TikTok, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, and virtual meeting platforms like Teams/Zoom.

Through the Uganda Communications Universal Service And Access Fund (UCUSAF), UCC aims to enhance youths’ employability and self-sustainability by equipping them with ICT skills to remain competitive and improve their livelihoods.
