Officials from the Ministry briefed the City leadership on the milestones already achieved on the Jinja- Mbulamuti- road project including the signing of the civil works contract, ongoing preparatory works and the current status on the compensation of the project affected persons.
The proposal to borrow funds from Citi Bank for the construction of the project was tabled before Parliament on 20th October 2025 and was approved and following this approval the commencement of civil works is expected to begin soon subject to the conclusion of the financing terms being finalized by the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development. “The money for the construction of Jinja- Mbulamuti- road was approved and the valuation and eventual compensation of the project affected persons is in Pipeline and the civil works is expected to begin soon”, said Allan Ssempebwa the senior Public Relations Officer at the Ministry of Works and Transport.
The government pledged the construction of this 127 Kilometre road since 2001 and it’s one of the roads highlighted for construction in the National Resistance Movement manifesto however the delay of the construction has been attributed to the transition from Uganda National Roads Authority to the Ministry of Works and Transport.
