Women Entrepreneurs Empowered to Share Success Stories and Access Financial Support

State Minister for Finance in charge of Privatization and Investment, Evelyn Anite, emphasized the importance of women sharing their success stories to inspire others during the inaugural annual Women Entrepreneurs Conference organized by Uganda Development Bank in collaboration with Uganda Women Entrepreneurs Association Ltd at Hotel Africana in Kampala.

Speaking under the theme, “Accelerating Women Economic Equality through Financial and Non-Financial Inclusion Opportunities for Ugandan Women,” Anite stressed that while women have made strides, many still lag behind and require motivation from fellow successful women.

“We, the few successful women, must amplify our success stories to uplift others. No one will tell our stories for us; it is up to us to share and inspire,” Anite asserted.

Former Uganda Investment Authority Executive Director, Dr. Maggie Kigozi, echoed Anite’s sentiments, encouraging women to believe in their abilities and pursue opportunities across all sectors.

“Ladies, believe that you can achieve anything. Do not limit yourselves to specific sectors; instead, seize every opportunity available,” Dr. Kigozi advised.

Sophie Nakandi, UDB’s Head of Legal, highlighted the bank’s commitment to addressing the financial constraints faced by women in business through specialized programs tailored to their needs.

“Recognizing the challenges women entrepreneurs encounter, such as limited access to affordable capital and business development services, UDB established specialized programs to provide financial solutions,” Nakandi explained.

Under the women financing segment, known as Women Prosper loans, UDB has supported 72 enterprises in over 40 districts, approving loans worth Shs75 billion in the last two years, Nakandi revealed.

Sarah Kitakule, UWEAL’s Board Chairperson, commended UDB for its efforts in providing tailor-made financial solutions and facilitating the growth of women-owned businesses.

“Our partnership with Uganda Development Bank enhances our impact in the country, empowering women entrepreneurs through business development services,” Kitakule stated
