Woman Kills Husband Over Missing Borrowed Money
Police in Kapchorwa district have apprehended a 43-year-old woman named Juliet Chelangat on charges of murdering her husband, Namawangala Stephen, aged 40, in a dispute over borrowed money that went missing.
Juliet Chelangat, who resides in Warror village, Tegeres sub-county, reportedly accused her husband of stealing money that she had borrowed from a village Sacco to which she subscribes. Preliminary findings suggest that the deceased had obtained 200,000 shillings from the Kabat village savings group on October 4, 2023, with the intention of using it to pay for her children’s school fees. However, the money suddenly disappeared.
Fred Enanga, the spokesperson for the Uganda police, has provided details of the case. According to the police, the husband picked up the borrowed money on October 8, 2023, claiming that he would refund it. However, he went on a drinking binge at a local bar in the trading center.
The following day, an angered Juliet Chelangat demanded the money from her husband, but he was unable to repay it, leading to a heated argument between the couple. During the altercation, Chelangat pushed Namawangala to the ground, and he subsequently lost consciousness.
