Police have apprehended and presented in court a woman and her two children accused of conspiring to murder her husband, Byamukama Vincent.
The gruesome incident that has shocked the community of Mushuga Village, Nakisenyi Subcounty occurred on June 8, 2024.
Byamukama was brutally hacked to death with a machete, his body mutilated, burned, and disposed of in a pit latrine that was subsequently demolished.
The suspects including his wife, Mutesi Everino, and their children, Akanekujuka Moses (21) and Ninshaba Hilda (19) have since been remanded to prison on murder charges.
Fred Enanga, the police spokesman says month prior to the incident, Byamukama had expelled his wife and children from their home following a domestic dispute. Mutesi, along with her children and a six-year-old grandson, moved to a nearby house.
Despite the separation, Mutesi and her family routinely sneaked into Byamukama’s house in his absence to cook and clean. On the day of the murder, they entered the house as usual but were confronted by an enraged Byamukama, who brandished a machete and ordered them to leave immediately.
Enanga explained that the family, driven by frustration and anger, retaliated later that night. They waited for Byamukama to fall asleep and then attacked him around 11 PM, using the same machete he had threatened them with. They fatally slashed his neck, moved his body behind the house, set it on fire, and dumped it in the pit latrine before demolishing it.
Suspicion grew among Byamukama’s relatives, who pressured Mutesi on his where abouts until she confessed to the crime.
Police, with the help of locals, excavated the pit latrine and recovered human remains, including a skull, bones, and personal belongings such as a burnt mattress and a walking stick.
Mutesi, Akanekujuka and Ninshaba Hilda were presented in court on Monday, facing charges of murder.
