Police in Kiboga have detained a suspect in connection with a shocking death of an an 11-year-old girl in Kirurumba Cell, Kiboga Town Council, Kiboga District.
The suspected witchdoctor identified as Nakyeyune Madinah, a 42-year-old resident of Kirurumba Cell, is accused of the murder of Namanda Oliver, a former pupil at Fairway Nursery School and resident of Buzibwera Cell, Kiboga District.
Racheal Kawala, the Wamala Regional police spokesperson says preliminary investigations reveal that on the night of June 10, 2024, at around 10:00 PM, Namanda left her home to sell boiled fresh maize in Kiboga Town.
She was last seen wearing a yellow T-shirt and black skirt. When she did not return home, her family reported her missing to the police on June 11, 2024, prompting an immediate search.
Tragically, on June 12, 2024, at approximately 11:30 AM, a young boy collecting grass for animals in the kibanja (garden) of Sekandi in Kirurumba Cell discovered body parts of Namanda.
The boy informed his parents, who then reported the incident to the local authorities. The Local Council 1 (LC1) chairman of the area alerted the police, and a task team led by the District Police Commander (DPC) of Kiboga responded to the scene.
Wamala says at the crime scene, investigators found that internal organs, including the lungs and heart, had been removed from Namanda’s body. Her abdomen had been severed from her legs, which were left at the scene.
The recovered body parts were transported to Kiboga Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination. Additional exhibits, including a knicker and a black skirt suspected to belong to the deceased, were also recovered.
A police canine unit was brought to the scene, leading officers to a shrine owned by Nakyeyune Madinah in Kirurumba Cell.
Madinah, the shrine owner, was immediately taken into custody and is currently detained at Kiboga Police Station. Efforts are ongoing to recover the missing body parts and to identify and apprehend additional suspects involved in this heinous crime.
“We urge parents to be cautious about their children’s safety both inside and outside the home,” said SP Racheal Kawala, Police Spokesperson for the Wamala region. “Our task teams are doing everything possible to bring all those responsible to justice.
