Police in Kampala are holding a woman in shoplifting video making rounds on social media.
Jane Unaneza was arrested on Wednesday evening at the Buganda Road Magistrates’ Court for a mention of a case on theft involving her following an earlier arrest.
In the trending video, Unaneza pretends to pick interest in a pair of shoes at the counter of Pentagon Plaza which is located at former Qualicel Bus park opposite the New Taxi Park. She asks the attendant identified as Unaneza to help her try on the shoes. But in the process, Unaneza stretches her hand into the handbag which was open and picks a bundle of money.
Mugerwa noticed that her one million shillings had been taken close to an hour later.
“I had just counted the money and was planning to bank it. I was shocked when it disappeared in my presence. I was forced to check the CCTV cameras until I noticed that it is this woman I had helped to try out one of the pairs of my shoes that had stolen my money,” Mugerwa said.
Patrick Onyango, the Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson, Unaneza is a serial shoplifter and is currently being held at Central Police Station in Kampala.
