William Ruto Elected Kenya’s fifth President
Kenya’s Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chair Wafula Chebukati has declared DP William Ruto Kenya’s President elect.
Mr Ruto was declared the winner of a closely fought election after garnering 50.49 percent of the vote against Raila Odinga’s 48.85 percent.
The announcement at the Bomas of Kenya auditorium, which comes six days after Kenyans went to the ballot, was followed by jubilation from the Kenya Kwanza camp. There was also audible disgruntlement from the Azimio camp.
Speaking shortly after being declared winner, Mr Ruto congratulated the IEBC and praises it’s chairman for a job well done.
‘I want to congratulate the IEBC for raising the bar. I want to say without fear of any contradiction that Wafula Chebukati is our hero’ said Mr Ruto.
The new president also said he will work with all leaders for a prosperous Kenya.
‘I will work with all elected leaders so that we can fashion a country that will leave nobody behind’ said Mr Ruto.
