President Yoweri Museveni has said that the Government of Uganda is ready to cooperate with the Government of the Republic of Serbia in order to revive the 2 countries’ relationship in paving the way for joint ventures.

The President also extended an invitation to his Serb counterpart to visit Uganda.

“We are ready for cooperation and I would like to invite the President of Serbia to come and visit Uganda. We shall welcome him,” he said.

The President was speaking during a meeting with a delegation from Serbia, led by the Speaker of the Serbian Parliament, Rt. Hon. Maja Gojkovic, who called on him last evening at State House Entebbe. Uganda Parliament Speaker Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, among other Uganda Government officials, accompanied the Serb delegation to State House.

The President, who was happy to receive the Serbian Speaker of Parliament, however, told the delegation that he was very sorry about what took place in the former Yugoslavia of which Serbia, along with Slovenia, Croatia, Borsinia and Herzegovina as well as Montenegro, were constituent regions that all became independent after the break-up of Yugoslavia.

Mr. Museveni informed his Serb guests that Yugoslav companies carried out good construction work in Uganda citing Kampala Serena Hotel (formerly Nile Hotel), Soroti Meat Packers together with a number of roads, as examples of the outstanding construction work by Yugoslav companies.

The Serbian Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Maja Gojkovic, on her part told the President that the Serb Government is ready to extend assistance and support to the Government of Uganda.

“Serbia is ready to provide assistance and support to Uganda when needed,” she said adding that Serbia will ensure that Uganda and other African countries get the support they need from Serbia. She revealed that she will convey President Museveni’s invitation to his Serbian counterpart to visit Uganda in order to build the relations between the two countries.
