The Vice President of Uganda Retired Major Jesca Alupo has declared that President Yoweri Museveni will stand again during the 2026 general polls.
VP Alupo passed the communication during an event on sunday attended by church leaders and Christians in Entebbe to mark thirty-five years of Entebbe Church of Uganda Archdeaconry.
Alupo said the President deserves another term because his leadership has so far ensured progress and development in Infrastructure, ICT and various projects to rid Ugandans of poverty.
She stated that the president be given more time to complete programs he started.
“And as I conclude, Pulesident Museveni ajja kuba naffe mu 2026. Nsaba mumwagire nga bwe mubadde mukola ebbanga lyonna. So now there is no one who will say that the message was not shared. It is now here,let’s examine it and because of all those programs that are not complete, let’s support the President. “She said
This development comes as NRM Veterans including Kahinda Otafire, endorsed the President for another round.
The Minister for Internal Affairs Maj Gen Kahinda Otafiire said the ruling National Resistance Movement still have President Museveni as the preferred flag bearer.
Otafiire added that the NRM is the only party with the right to send Museveni to retirement.
“That is his business, he is entitled to his opinion. For us who are rational and understand him (Museveni) have said we still want him in charge,” said Otafiire
He was responding to remarks by the First Son, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, declaring his interest to stand for presidency in 2026. Muhoozi told the NRM , the ruling party chaired by his father that what the country needs is a representative of the younger people.
