Vicious Fire Burns Down 8 Homes in Jinja City
A fire broke out this morning in Masese 1, Southern division, Jinja City, engulfing eight residential block houses made of iron sheets and timber.
The fire started around 8 am and quickly spread due to the type of buildings and the neighborhood’s layout.
Kiira regional police spokesperson James Mubi says the fire brigade responded in time but their fire truck couldn’t reach the scene.
He says instead local fire rescue teams and residents used buckets to extinguish the flames, facing many challenges along the way.
Mubi states that the cause of the fire is still unknown, but it might have been due to illegal power connections or an unattended charcoal stove.
Local leaders are now urging people to report any illegal power connections to prevent such incidents in the future.
According to police, no one was injured or killed in the fire, but many household items were destroyed.
The police are asking the city authorities to improve housing schemes in such areas and ensure proper access routes for emergency vehicles.
