UPDF Warns of ADF Rebel Infiltration for Terror Attacks

The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) have announced that a contingent of ADF rebels has infiltrated the country with intentions to carry out terror attacks.

This group, reported to have entered the country two days ago, is purportedly under the leadership of Ahmed Muhamood Hassan, also known as Abu Waqas, a Tanzanian bomb expert.

According to UPDF’s deputy spokesperson, Col. Deo Akiiki, among the individuals identified are Muhammad Issa, Amigo Kibirige alias Simba, Muhamad Lumisa, and Nasser Hamid Diru.

Col. Akiiki explained that one of them is suspected to have been dispatched by Abu Waqas for the current mission.

He further stated that other security agencies have been notified and are on high alert.

“It’s simply suicidal for these terrorists to persist in their terror activities within Uganda. Having suffered significant setbacks in areas like Kamanda in Congo, ADF has resorted to indiscriminate violence in DRC, targeting civilians far from where our forces are in joint operations with FARDC,” Col. Akiiki remarked.

Recalling last year’s incident, where a group allied with ISIL reportedly infiltrated the country under the leadership of Kamusi and Njovu, Col. Akiiki highlighted the attack on Luhubiriha Secondary School, resulting in the loss of students’ lives. Additionally, they were held accountable for assaults on traders traveling in lorries, which were subsequently torched, and an attack on two tourists at Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Col. Akiiki noted that following the demise of their commander, Kamusi, and the capture of his second-in-command, Njovu, the group was dismantled, scattering ADF elements further into the jungles of the DRC.
