UPDF to Recruit 13,000 More LDUs
The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has announced plans to recruit more Local Defence Unit personnel to enhance the security situation in various parts of the country, especially at the grassroots level.
According to a statement issued by the UPDF land forces’ office in Bombo, at least 13, 000 personnel will be recruited. The requirements and other details are contained in the statement that follows;
In March this year, Over 6,000 Local Defence Unit (LDU) personnel were passed out and subsequently deployed in the districts of Kampala, Wakiso and Mukono.
According to the deputy spokesperson of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), Lt. Col. Deo Akiiki, the 6,436 LDUs, who were recruited in October last year underwent a four-month basic military training at Oliver Tambo Military Training School in Kaweweta, Nakaseke district.
The new recruits will also undergo the same training.
