UPDF Strengthens Mission Planning In Somalia Workshop
Brigadier General Joseph Ssemwanga, Sector One Commander of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) under the African Union Support Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), inaugurated a five-day interactive staff planning workshop at Sector One headquarters in Mogadishu.
The workshop, organised with support from the United Kingdom Mission Support Team in Somalia (UKMST), focuses on experience-sharing, collaborative planning, and addressing operational challenges in Somalia.
Brig Gen Ssemwanga praised the UKMST for their steadfast support, highlighting the workshop’s role in enhancing operational success. “These workshops are vital for mentoring, coordination, and effective planning within teams or cells, ensuring the success of operations,” he said.
Colonel Ben Ramsey, Commander of the British Forces in Somalia, commended the UPDF for their 18 years of dedication to restoring peace in Somalia, underscoring the importance of partnerships and shared expertise in achieving mission goals.
The workshop covers military planning processes and emphasises civil-military cooperation to win the support of stakeholders in the mission area.
The event was attended by senior leaders, including the Deputy Sector One Commander, the Staff Officer for Training from AUSSOM Force Headquarters, and heads of departments at Sector One headquarters, reinforcing a united effort toward mission success.
