The Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) is currently recruiting thousands to join the force. The recruitment of 10,000 prospective soldiers started on June 18 and will end on July 4 throughout the country.

The exercise in Buliisa has seen over 1000 youths turning up for 30 slots to be filled in.

The recruitment has so far left out over 900 youths out because the prerequisite requirements for the applied position.

Some youths failed to produce National Identification, others had no recommendation letters from LC1 chairpersons, District Internal Security Officer-DISO, and Resident District Commissioners- RDC. While some had forged academic documents.

There were also incidents of applicants being above the stipulated age of 18-30 years.

Major Stephen Tumwesigye, the Spokesperson for the Masindi Artillery Division and Spokesperson for the recruitment team in the Albertine says only those that have fully fulfilled the requirements will be recruited.
