UPDF Honored for Discipline and People-Centered Service

Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has today been recognized for maintaining discipline as a pro – people force that fought to liberate Ugandans from bad leadership.

“I genuinely thank UPDF, irrespective of rank and file, for maintaining discipline. The respect you have for the civilian authority has made UPDF exist now and forever,” emphasized the State Minister for Finance Planning and Economic Development, and also in charge of Micro Finance Hon Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo during the launch of the the 44th Army Week and Tarehe Sita celebrations in Kyotera district.

He reminded Kyotera residents not to forget where UPDF found them and urged them to vehemently maintain the existing peace and security ushered in by UPDF for continous development.

Hon Kasolo also recognized the contribution of the President of the Republic of Uganda and Commander in Chief of the UPDF H.E Gen (Rtd) Yoweri Kaguta Museveni towards the current peace in the country, saying that his profound guidance and visionary leadership has made the country peaceful and safe.

The State Micro Finance Minister, further implored UPDF personnel to continue with the fight against poverty (now that war is over – save for DR Congo, Somalia and South Sudan),as manifested with their involvement in poverty alleviation programs like Operation Wealth Creation).

Maj Gen Steven Mugerwa, the I Division Commander and representative of the Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, in his remarks, commended the people of Masaka region, especially those from Kyotera, for supporting the liberation struggle right from the 1970s.

The 1 Division Commander said that UPDF Tarehe Sita celebrations are in Masaka to give back to the communities for their past efforts in the Peoples’ struggle. “Out of our small budget, we share with those who joined us during the struggle, and we request that you accept it,” he told area locals.

He noted that as a result of the present peace and stability, both soldiers and civilians meet the same challenges in life in the spirit of comradeship.

“All efforts to usher peace in Uganda are rooted in Kyotera,” he said, further urging all citizens to protect the existing peace.

“I urge you to keep the current peace and stability.Nobody will ever be left free to support any anti people sentiments,” he ended.

During the same event, the coordinator of the 44th Tarehe Sita celebrations in Kyotera district and also Director of the Political Commissariat at Air force Col Anatoli Nuwagaba , called upon area residents to cooperate with the army for the success of Quick Impact Projects in their area.

Through out this 44th Army Week, UPDF personnel will engage in limited mobile medical public health outreaches, static surgical camps, vector control and community management, deliver mattresses and delivery beds to some hospitals like Kalisizo hospital, Mutukura Border post and Kasasa HC111, among others. Selected schools in the area will also receive textbooks from UPDF and ideological classes will be conducted in some areas.

The LC V Chairman Mr Kintu Kisekulo implored area locals and leaders to continue working together for the prosperity of the region.

Defence Forces Week and Tarehe Sita 2025 celebrations commemorate the UPDF at 44 years.

Masaka people paid a significant contribution to the successful execution of patriotic efforts to liberate our country from dictatorship and backwardness.They provided support to FRONASA, Kikosi Maalum, NRA during the peoples’ struggle.

They also continue to support UPDF and other security organisations to eliminate anti peoples’ forces like the Bijambiya (Panga – wielding men).

The function was also attended by the Resident District Commissioner for Kyotera district Mr Apollo Mugume Chief of Staff Reserve Force, Brig Gen Mwanje Ssekilanda, Col Donald Kashemeza Commander of the Sango Bay detach, representatives from different security organisations, local and religious leaders, members from civil society organizations, and area residents.
