The Chief of Defence Forces Gen David Muhoozi has said that the UPDF has deployed 2,000 of its officers to help in the fight against the locusts in the country.

Gen Muhoozi said that the Ministry of Agriculture is taking the lead in the fight against the invasion but noted that the UPDF, just like other government agencies are supporting the Agriculture ministry in the fight.

“We have deployed 2,000 troops to fight the locusts but we are looking at mobilizing beyond that number in terms of human and material mobilization,” Gen Muhoozi said.

Gen Muhoozi was responding to a question from a journalist about the invasion of the locusts.

The CDF was speaking at a press conference where he received Shs30m from Total Uganda. The money is a contribution toward the UPDF Tarehe Sita activities.

The Managing Director handed a dummy cheque worth Shs30m to the CDF who then handed it to the Head Teacher of Namagera Church of Uganda Primary School.

The CDF used the occasion to thank all public and private entities that have supported the Tarehe Sita activities.

The CDFnoted that companies like Total Uganda and others that partnered with the UPDF have done well in humanizing their business through Corporate Social Responsibility.

“Businesses are not only about making money but also giving back to the community. For us as the UPDF, our Civil-Military Activities are aimed at demonstrating our founding purpose as a peoples’ army,” Gen Muhoozi said.
