Captain Ronald Lubeera, the officer who commanded the Military Police operation against rioting Makerere University students has been arrested.

The UPDF spokesperson, Brig Richard Karemire says Captain Lubeera, the Commander of the Military Police Detach at Makerere has been detained at Makindye Military Police headquarters as investigations into the UPDF conduct at Makerere commence.

“Capt Ronald Lubeera of Military Police has been arrested and detained at Makindye. He commanded the troops in Makerere. A board of inquiry led by Lt Col Richard Ochen Okum has been set up to establish details of what happened and findings will guide the next course of action,” Brig Karemire said in a social media post

The arrest comes just two days after the President and Commander-in-Chief  Yoweri Museveni, ordered the military out of Makerere University.

“Till this stage, we have not registered any complaints of torture by security personnel against the students,” police spokesperson Fred Enanga said in a statement on Tuesday.

Makerere University students have since October 22 been rioting in protest of the 15 percent cumulative tuition policy approved by the university council last year.
