UPC’s Akena Tells Gov’t to Prioritize Education for Social Development

The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) party has urged the government to prioritize and concentrate on the education sector for the social, economic, and political development of the country.

This call was articulated by the party president, Jimmy Akena, during his Christmas and end-of-year message at the party headquarters in Kampala.

Akena emphasized that in the upcoming year of 2024, the government should give precedence to the education sector, as the current system fails to produce competent individuals for Uganda’s promising future.

He noted that the present state of the education sector disproportionately favors wealthier citizens, with well-equipped schools catering to the affluent, leaving those for the underprivileged lacking in educational standards.

Furthermore, Akena stressed the need for the government to enhance the motivation of teachers to ensure that Ugandan children receive a higher quality of education. He also advised addressing issues within the health sector to safeguard the lives of Ugandans.

Akena underscored the importance of prioritizing the well-being of the people, stating that health, education, and livelihood programs should be fundamental to all infrastructural development.
He expressed concern about the current state of roads, bridges, and other critical infrastructure, emphasizing the necessity for improvement to avoid trade bottlenecks and safety concerns for citizens.

In anticipation of the upcoming year, Akena outlined the party’s focus on establishing a vision for Uganda’s equitable and accelerated development.

He emphasized the UPC’s commitment to mobilizing citizens and outlining a vision for a just, peaceful, and prosperous Uganda, where all citizens have equal opportunities and equitable access to national resources
