The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) is set to release the 2024 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examination results this week.
This year’s examinations were unique, as they encompassed both the inaugural assessments under the New Lower Secondary Curriculum (NLSC) and a one-time transitional examination based on the old curriculum.
A total of 379,748 candidates across 4,168 examination centers nationwide sat for the UCE examinations in 2024. Of these, 369,601 were pioneers of the new curriculum, while 10,147 candidates participated in the transitional examination designed for those who wished to improve their grades or had missed previous examinations.
The 2024 examination cycle marked a significant shift in Uganda’s education system, with the implementation of the NLSC. This curriculum emphasizes competency-based learning, aiming to equip students with practical skills alongside theoretical knowledge. The transitional examination was a one-off initiative to accommodate candidates from the previous system.
UNEB has completed the evaluation process and is preparing to brief the Minister for Education Janet Kataha Museveni, ahead of officially announcing the results. Students, educators, and parents are advised to stay updated through official UNEB channels for the exact release date and guidelines on accessing the results.
The release of these results is highly anticipated, as they will provide insights into the performance and effectiveness of the new curriculum, as well as the success of the transitional measures implemented by UNEB.
In the 2023 UCE examinations, candidates sat from 3,808 examination centers, with 32.5% (118,633 candidates) being beneficiaries of the government’s USE program.
