A bold vision born over a decade ago during Uganda’s National Science Week in 2013 is now transforming daily travel for thousands of passengers across the country. What began as an ambitious idea to make transport faster, cashless and more efficient has matured into a fully operational system led by local innovators.
KaCyber Technologies, a Ugandan startup committed to modernizing public transport through digital innovation, has brought that vision to life with the KaCyber Go Card – a smart, tap-to-board travel card now in use on EBus Xpress.
Two years after launch, the KaCyber Go Card is helping commuters enjoy smoother, safer & more convenient journeys. With a simple tap, passengers board without cash or paper tickets – a major shift from the traditional systems that have long defined Uganda’s public transport.
Long queues, last-minute scrambles for change and ticket confusion are steadily being replaced by a streamlined digital experience. The card reduces boarding time, limits physical contact and gives passengers more control.
Behind this change is KaCyber Technologies, led by CEO Timothy Kayondo and a team of Ugandan innovators. In addition to the Go Card, KaCyber offers a mobile app for booking & payment and a USSD code (*217*88#) for users with basic phones – ensuring access for all.
KaCyber Technologies has focused not just on convenience but on addressing deeper systemic challenges in the transport sector. The digital platform has enabled transport operators to manage their fleets more efficiently, track passenger data, reduce fraud & build trust with travelers.

“Public transport affects millions of lives in Uganda every single day. We wanted to make it easier, safer & more reliable, using tools that people actually have access to,” said KaCyber Technologies CEO Timothy Kayondo. “This is more than just a card – it’s a shift in how Ugandans experience mobility.”
With EBus Xpress on board and more operators expected to follow, Uganda’s digital transport revolution is gaining momentum.
Transport Experts see KaCyber’s innovation as essential for the country’s growing urban needs. The system isn’t just modernizing transport—it’s proving how local solutions can solve national challenges.
The KaCyber initiative is not only modernizing transport but also reinforcing Uganda’s position as a hub for homegrown technological advancement. It is a clear example of how local innovations can respond to national challenges with smart, scalable and inclusive solutions.
As the system expands, passengers are being encouraged to make the shift from cash and paper to digital – and to embrace the benefits that come with it. The KaCyber Go Card is not just a convenience; it represents the future of public transport in Uganda: accessible, accountable, and built with the everyday commuter in mind.
