Uganda has registered another 15 new cases of COVID-19 for the second day running, of which 12 are truck drivers while the other three cases are contacts to previously confirmed truck drivers.

According to a statement issued by the health ministry on Friday, 1,248 samples from points of entry were tested and 12 Ugandans and 23 foreign truck drivers tested positive.

However, the 23 foreign truck drivers were handed over to their countries of origin, following the new presidential directive denying entry to the country by all foreign truck drivers who test positive.

The other 858 samples tested were from the community and contacts of the previously confirmed cases where three tested positive.

“The total confirmed cases are now 175 with 68 recoveries,” the ministry of health stated, following the new directive to deduct all the foreign truck drivers from the national tally.
