Uganda’s COVID-19 positivity rate on Monday dropped to below seven percent for the first time in over six weeks.

At the same time, the number of people admitted to hospital with COVID-19 fell to below 700 and fatalities due to the virus also dropped.

The findings, which were released by the ministry of health on Monday, put the country’s positivity rate at 6.6 percent, active cases admitted to hospital at 688 and deaths were 22 respectively.

This comes towards the end of a 42-day lockdown that was announced by President Museveni with the aim of stemming the further spread of the deadly virus.

The president is soon expected to address the nation on the way forward.

According to the Ministry, out of a total of 3,559 people tested for COVID-19 on July 24, 234 people were found to be living with the virus.

That result means a total of 92,724 people have now contracted COVID-19 since the first case of COVID-19 was registered in Uganda in March of last year.

The ministry also said a total of 1,381 people recovered from the disease in 24-hours, which hiked total recoveries in Uganda to 77,171.

Total COVID-19 tests done were 1,452,687 and the total number of vaccines administered in Uganda stood at 1,115,946.
