All Ugandan ministers will undergo compulsory COVID-19 testing moments after the Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda announced that he will undergo self-isolation after his staff tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

“Friends, I have gone into self-isolation after some of my contacts tested positive for #COVID19. My own test result is negative, however, I have taken this decision as health recommended measure,” Dr Rugunda said in a tweet.

Meanwhile, the sample tests for the ministers are being conducted at the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM).

The Minister for Gender, Labour and Social Development Frank Tumwebaze said he had undergone the test.

“Yes, testing is going on. I have done mine,” Tumwebaze said.

According to sources, one of the Rugunda’s contacts who tested positive is one of his drivers.

Sources say that President Yoweri Museveni is considering holding cabinet meetings through virtual space for fear of COVID-19 transmission. On Thursday, Museveni presented the State of the Nation Address to parliament via zoom for the first time.
