The Ugandan capital, Kampala, has been officially confirmed as the next host of the African Water Association (AFWA) Congress and Exhibition.
According to Dr. Silver Mugisha, Managing Director of the National Water and Sewerage Corporation, the prestigious AFWA Congress and Exhibition is scheduled for February 2025.
“The African Water Association (AfWA) has selected Kampala, Uganda, as the venue for the AfWA Congress and Exhibition-2025, slated for February of that year.
This decision was reached during the Annual General Boarding Meeting held at Sofitel Hotel Abidjan, Ivory Coast,” stated Dr. Silver Mugisha, President of the Africa Water Association.
AFWA, a professional association boasting over 100 utility members from more than 50 countries across Africa, holds the distinction of being the largest and most influential entity setting agendas, influencing policies, and seeking solutions on the continent.
Dr. Eng Silver Mugisha of Uganda was reelected as President of AfWA after completing his initial two-year term from 2020 to 2023.
He is the first Ugandan to hold this position for two consecutive terms, having been re-elected during the AfWA Annual General Boarding Meeting on February 18, 2023, in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
Dr. Mugisha, also the Managing Director of Uganda’s National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), expressed that his reelection signifies confidence in Uganda’s utility management practices.
He emphasized NWSC’s standing as one of the world’s most respected utilities, highlighting the opportunity to exchange best practices and advocate for innovative technologies and sanitation practices to enhance water and sewerage services delivery in Uganda.
Acknowledging the vital support from the Government of Uganda in creating an enabling environment for the expansion of clean water and sewerage services, Dr. Mugisha appreciated his renewed mandate based on his expertise and skills in utility management.
Established in February 1980 as the Union of African Water Suppliers (UAWS), AfWA emerged from the collective desire of African water utility managers to pool their resources and expertise, with the aim of improving access to drinking water across the continent.
