President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni recently accepted credentials from nine newly appointed envoys, representing various countries. The credentials presentation took place at State House, Entebbe on August 22, 2023.
Among the envoys was H.E. Etsegenet Bezabih Yimenu, the new Ambassador of Ethiopia, who was the first to present credentials conveyed warm regards from the Ethiopian President and emphasized the commitment to strengthen the existing strong relationship between the two nations.
Discussions between Yimenu and President Museveni covered matters of mutual interest.
Ambassador H.E. Upender Singh Rawat of India assured President Museveni of his dedication to enhancing the bilateral partnership between India and Uganda. Rawat also expressed his intention to nurture the existing relationship based on partnership and shared interests.
Among the other envoys presenting their credentials was Ambassador Hugues Chantry of Belgium. Chantry conveyed greetings from the Prime Minister of Belgium and highlighted the shared aspiration to reinforce the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
H.E. Lebbius Tangeni Tobias, the Namibian High Commissioner to Uganda, presented his credentials as well. Tangeni, along with Mr. Godfrey Kirumira, a newly appointed Honorary Consul of Namibia to Uganda, aimed to strengthen the already established relations between the two countries.
H.E. Callista Jennie Mutharika, the Malawian High Commissioner to Uganda, conveyed the friendly regards of the President of Malawi and expressed commitment to enhancing the economic, political, and social ties with Uganda.900Mutharika expressed Malawi’s interest in Uganda’s support for value addition to agricultural and livestock products. Additionally, she sought Uganda’s backing in retaining Malawi’s position at the UN Human Rights Council.
Envoys from the Philippines and Mozambique, H.E. Marie Charlotte G. Tang and H.E. Jeronimo Rosa Joao Chivavi respectively, also presented their credentials. Both pledged to strengthen bilateral ties with Uganda.
President Museveni took the opportunity to discuss the immense market potential that Africa offers to Europe and Asia with the envoys of Canada and Brazil, H.E. Silvio Jose Albuquerque and H.E. Ambassador Christopher Thornley respectively. Museveni welcomed the new envoys to Uganda and reiterated the commitment to cordial relations built on mutual respect and cooperation.
The event was attended by government officials, including Hon. John Mulimba, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in charge of Regional Cooperation.
