The Uganda Prisons Service has announced a significant reshuffle of senior officers in what officials describe as an effort to strengthen professionalism and improve service delivery across the institution.
In a communication issued by Senior Commissioner of Prisons Frank Baine Mayanja, the shake-up involves a mix of fresh appointments, redeployments, and officers resuming duties after leave.
At headquarters, Ms. Aliyo Naatukunda has been appointed Acting Commissioner of Prisons in charge of Legal Advisory Services and Human Rights, while Ms. Brenda Sana takes over as Head of the Human Resource Planning and Development Department. Mr. Robert Jolly Bamutura has returned to the Department of Estates and Engineering as Staff Officer, and Mr. Ben Nyanzi Nicomedie Ahimbisibwe has been posted to the Division of Pensions.
The reorganization has also affected several regional and district commands. Mr. Ronald Mukwoli has been deployed to Kalungu as District Prisons Commander, with new postings also announced for Bugiri, Tororo, Kalungu, and Kumi districts. In the latter, Mr. Geoffrey Poro replaces Mr. Patrick Emojong, who is proceeding on leave ahead of retirement.
In the central region, Ms. Lillian Asello has taken up duty as Staff Officer, while Ms. Zaia Munobwa has been moved to Busaana Prisons as Officer in Charge, succeeding Ms. Juliet Alero, who is on leave.
The reshuffle further confirmed deputy appointments at key stations, with officers posted to Nyabuhikye, Kanoni, Arua Main, Masaka Main, Mubuku, Aswa II, and Ibuga prisons.
According to the directive, all regional and district commanders are required to supervise immediate handovers to ensure continuity of operations. The Uganda Prisons Service emphasized that the changes take effect without delay.
