The government of Uganda has strongly rejected and described as fabricated, claims linking Uganda to a Rwandan rebel group named the Rwanda National Congress (RNC).

This week some Rwandan media outlets ran stories alleging that RNC had constituted leaders who would be based in Uganda.

However, in a statement, the Uganda Media Centre Executive Director Ofwono Opondo said: “Uganda reiterates that it doesn’t know, host or deal in any way with such a group, a fact that has been ably communicated through the appropriate channels to the Government of the Republic of Rwanda.”

Rwanda has for some time now been accusing Uganda of supporting subversive activities in Kigali. It’s the same accusation that the Kigali government fronted for the recent closure of the Katuna border with Uganda, which remains closed to date.
