Uganda Cranes to Face Congo Brazzaville in Crucial Match
The Uganda Cranes are set to clash with Congo Brazzaville on Monday, September 9, 2024, at Namboole Stadium.
This match is a pivotal moment for the Cranes as they strive for a spot in the Africa Cup of Nations, which will take place in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
Currently, the Cranes are competing in Group K, which includes South Africa, Congo Brazzaville, and South Sudan.
The Uganda Cranes were held to a 2-2 draw by South Africa in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier match last week. The game, played at Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg, saw the Cranes initially take the lead before South Africa equalized with a late goal.
Dennis Omedi put Uganda ahead with a goal in the 51st minute, followed shortly by Rogers Khassim Mato’s strike in the 53rd minute. However, South Africa fought back, with Lyle Foster scoring in the 14th minute and Thalente Mbatha netting an equalizer in the 96th minute of added time.
Coach Paul Joseph Put’s lineup included goalkeeper Isma Watenga, Khalid Aucho, Azizi Kayondo, Ronald Ssekiganda, Allan Okello, Dennis Omedi, Steven Mukwala, Rogers Mato, Bevis Mugabi, among others.
In terms of statistics, South Africa dominated possession with 64% of the ball, compared to Uganda’s 36%. South Africa also had the edge in corner kicks, with six compared to Uganda’s five. South Africa made a total of 526 passes, while Uganda completed 299. On the attack, South Africa recorded 18 shots, with seven on target, while the Cranes managed six shots with three on target.
The upcoming game against Congo Brazzaville is crucial for their campaign, and fans are eagerly anticipating a strong performance from the national team.
