Uganda Cranes on Top of Group A After 2-0 Triumph Over Congo

The Uganda Cranes bolstered their Africa Cup of Nations qualification hopes with a commanding 2-0 victory over Congo Brazzaville.

Azizi Kayondo opened the scoring in the 21st minute, with Jude Ssemugabi sealing the win in the 85th minute.

With this result, the Cranes now top Group K with four points, while Congo Brazzaville remains in second with three points. South Africa sits in third place with one point, and South Sudan trails in last without a point.

Cranes coach Paul Joseph Put fielded a solid lineup, featuring goalkeeper Ismael Watenga, captain Khalid Aucho, Ronald Ssekiganda, Kenneth Ssemakula, Bevis Mugabi, and Rogers Khassim Mato, among others.

Uganda previously drew 2-2 with South Africa on September 6th, 2024, in an away fixture.

The team will return to action on October 7th, 2024, against South Sudan at Namboole Stadium, as they continue their quest for a place in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
