Uganda Cranes in Morocco Ahead of World Cup Qualifier Games

The Uganda Cranes have landed in Morocco ahead of the crucial FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifier matches against Guinea and Somalia later this month. In parallel events, the Uganda Rhinos are gearing up to face Zanzibar in the final of the 2023 Cecafa U15 championship on Thursday.

Meanwhile, KCCA FC has officially appointed Abdullah Mubiru as their new manager, marking a strategic move to rejuvenate their season.

Uganda is set to clash with Guinea on the 17th of November, followed by a match against Somalia four days later, both hosted in Morocco. Seven foreign-based players, including Richard Basangwa, Abdul Aziz Kayondo, Captain Khalid Aucho, Fahad Bayo, Rogers Mato, Bevis Mugabi, and Elvis Bomono, have now joined the team camp, enhancing the squad’s strength.

Newly appointed coach Paul Put, undertaking his first official duty since taking over from Milutin Micho Sredojevic last month, has carefully selected a squad of 27 players. The objective is clear – a victorious start for Uganda in the upcoming matches.

In the youth football arena, Uganda’s hopes are high as they prepare to face Zanzibar in the final of the Cecafa U15 championship. Zanzibar secured their spot with a 4-2 victory in post-match penalties after a one-all draw during normal time. The championship’s final showdown is scheduled for Thursday at the FUFA technical centre in Njeru, and Uganda is eager to defend the title they clinched in 2019.

Shifting focus to club football, KCCA FC has entrusted Abdullah Mubiru with the managerial reins, succeeding Portuguese coach Sergio Traguil. Mubiru, a former KCCA player, returns for his second stint with the Lugogo-based club, having previously served in 2014. With a two-year deal in place, he faces the challenge of steering KCCA FC through a challenging season, marked by a slow start in the league and an early exit from the Caf Confederations Cup.

Despite a promising 3-1 home victory over rivals Vipers on Friday, KCCA FC finds itself in a precarious position, ranking third from the bottom with a mere 4 points from 7 games. Abdullah Mubiru’s task is clear – to revitalize the team and guide them to a more successful trajectory
