The Uganda Cranes men’s national team drew 2-2 with the Black Stars of Ghana in an international friendly held on Tuesday, March 27, 2024, at Grande de Stade Marrakech in Morocco.

This marked their second friendly match, following a 4-0 loss to Comoros last week in the initial test match.

The Black Stars secured an early lead seven minutes into the game, courtesy of central defender Jerome Opoku. Nevertheless, the Cranes swiftly equalized through Steven Mukwala, leveling the score to 1-1.

Ghana reclaimed the lead six minutes later, bringing the halftime score to 2-1.

The Cranes managed to equalize once more when Shaban Muhammad scored eight minutes before the end of the match, resulting in a 2-2 draw at full time.

Uganda coach Paul Put expressed contentment with the outcome, noting that the draw against Ghana would invigorate their pursuit of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers scheduled for June.

“I am pleased with the result as we faced one of Africa’s strongest teams, showcasing a commendable performance by the players. However, we must remain vigilant; conceding two goals today underscores the importance of learning from our mistakes to avoid similar setbacks in June. Conceding goals poses significant challenges in mounting a comeback,” Coach Put emphasized.

Furthermore, the coach stressed the necessity for continued hard work and expressed hopes for the swift recovery of injured players.

“Progress is evident, but there remains substantial work ahead. We are hopeful for the swift recovery of our injured players ahead of the upcoming June fixtures,” he concluded.

Ghana boasts an impressive record, having clinched the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title four times.
