UACE Examinations Kick Off with Increased Candidates

The Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) exams for 2024 commenced today, with a significant increase in the number of candidates compared to last year.

According to the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB), 142,009 students registered for this year’s exams, marking a 22.1% increase from the 110,569 candidates in 2023. These students will sit for their exams across 2,634 centers, with the final exams scheduled for December 6, 2024.

Anotable proportion of candidates, 25.1%, are sponsored under the Universal Post Level Education and Training (UPOLET) program, while the remaining 74.8% are privately funded. Gender distribution shows 56.4% of candidates are male, while 43.6% are female.

UNEB has mobilized 991 examination supervisors and 470 security personnel to ensure the smooth and secure conduct of the examinations.

Jennifer Kalule-Musamba, UNEB’s Principal Public Relations Officer, emphasized the board’s commitment to maintaining exam integrity and security, assuring students and stakeholders that preparations have been thorough.

She further revealed that this year’s theme coincides with the PLE and UCE exams “Embracing security, a holistic assessment of learners”

Kalule has also warned against acts of malpractice, stating that those held culpable will be tried in court and sentenced according to the UNEB Act. The exams that kicked off with a briefing session for candidates on November 08 will proceed until December 06 , 2024.

Candidates started this morning with History Paper 3 and 4 for Arts students and Mathematics for their science counterparts.
