Two Suspects Linked to Machete Gang Netted in Nansana

Police in Nansana have apprehended two suspects for  being part of a notorious machete-wielding gang that has been causing terror among residents.

The arrest follows an attempted attack reported early on the morning of May 15th, 2024, in Nabweru Kazo Muganzilwaza, Nansana Division.

According to Patrick Onyango, the spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police at approximately 4:00 AM, two armed thugs wielding pangas allegedly attempted to rob residents returning home from a funeral in Kazo Muganzilwaza.

However, the would-be victims resisted, prompting the suspects  to flee towards their rented room in Kazo.

Onyango says the victims quickly alerted neighbors and the local LC 1 chairperson, who surrounded the suspects’ residence and promptly contacted police.

When police officers arrived at the the suspects were arrested without incident.

Onyango identifies the suspects as Ssebyuma Abdu, 34, a resident of Kazo Muganzilwaza, originally from Lwanume Kyamulira, Masaka, and Nyakana Ronald, also 34 years old, originally from Masaka. Upon searching their rented room, police discovered two pangas, a military-style green cap, and opium. The suspects are being charged with possession of dangerous weapons and narcotics.

The recovered pangas will undergo forensic examination to determine if they were used in any previous violent incidents.

Both suspects have been linked to the machete gang responsible for various acts of violence and intimidation in Nabweru and surrounding areas.
