Uganda has registered four new cases of COVID-19, with two of them being contacts of cross-border truck drivers who earlier tested positive for the virus.
A statement issued by the health ministry on Wednesday said 500 community samples were collected on Tuesday, from which the two cases were registered.
“The other two cases are from 1,728 samples from truck drivers. The total number of tests carried out were 2,228,” the ministry said.
The total number of confirmed cases in Uganda is now 264.
The ministry said 36 foreign truck drivers who tested positive for the virus were handed back to their countries of origin. These included 17 Tanzanians, 15 Kenyans, three Eritreans and one Burundian.
Confirmed cases
The ministry said the community cases included a 28-year-old male from Buikwe district who had come in contact with a positive truck driver.
The other community case is of 26-year-old male, a resident of Kyambogo, who had also been in contact with a truck driver and was under quarantine at the time of testing.
Two Ugandan male truck drivers who arrived from Tanzania via Mutukula and tested positive are currently admitted at Masaka Regional Referral Hospital.
“Currently, there are 80 admitted COVID-19 confirmed cases and all are in stable condition. To date, Uganda has registered a total of 65 COVID-19 recoveries and no COVID-19 related death recorded,” the ministry said.
