The Uganda Traffic Police spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police Michael Kananura, has dismissed claims that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was responsible for the traffic gridlock that occurred in Mpigi along the Masaka–Kampala highway.
Kananura said it was not true that the President had any connection to the jam, explaining that the congestion was caused by a high volume of vehicles traveling from Masaka toward Kampala.
He said the situation was worsened by indiscipline among some motorists who created illegal and extra lanes, blocking vehicles moving in the opposite direction toward Masaka from Mpigi.
According to police, the gridlock was further aggravated by a crash involving a truck and a lorry at Lungala, which temporarily cut off the road completely. A separate incident involving a broken-down trailer around the Kamengo area also contributed to the disruption.
Kananura said traffic police intervened, restored order, and traffic eventually resumed movement after the affected sections were cleared.
