Traffic Directorate Probes Reckless Driving by Gateway Bus Caught on Video

The Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety has launched an investigation into a viral video showing a Gateway bus recklessly overtaking on a dangerous corner.

According to Micheal Kananura the Traffic and Road safety spokesperson, authorities are working closely with Gateway bus management to identify the specific bus and driver involved in the incident.

The timing of the video remains uncertain, with reports suggesting it may have been recorded some time ago but only recently circulated, following the tragic Kyazanga crash.

Kananura has condemned the reckless driving behavior captured in the footage, emphasizing the grave risk it poses to both passengers and other road users.

He however, commended the public for using social media to report traffic violations, with officials encouraging timely reporting that includes clear details such as vehicle number plates, time, and location.

This video follows a recent accident on Monday morning at 4:00am when a horrific head-on collision between a Gateway bus and a truck claimed six lives and left over 30 others seriously injured along the Masaka-Mbarara Road.

The accident occurred at Kirumba Village in Kyazanga, Lwengo District.

The bus, registration number UBQ 621Z, belonging to Gateway Bus Company, was en route from Kisoro in Southwestern Uganda to Kampala City. It collided with a Fuso truck, registration number UBM 673K, which was loaded with sacks of maize while trying to overtake other vehicles.

The impact of the collision resulted in immediate fatalities and multiple injuries, with emergency responders rushing the injured to nearby medical facilities.
