Trade Ministry Suspends Legal Head Over Attack on PS
Nansikombi has dismissed these allegations, defending Ssali and accusing Anena of disrespect.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives finds itself embroiled in controversy following a deep heated exchange between the Permanent Secretary Geraldine Ssali and the Ministry’s Legal Head, Sandra Karyn Anena.
The incident, which reportedly occurred last Friday, sparked accusations and counter-accusations, leading to Anena filing a police report against Ssali and her security team for alleged assault and bodily harm.
However, in a twist of events, the Senior Human Resource Victoria Nansikombi has dismissed these allegations, defending Ssali and accusing Anena of disrespect
The altercation stemmed from a request by the new State Minister for Trade, Gen Wilson Mbasu Mbadi, for additional office space to accommodate his increased security detail. Ssali granted this request, which would affect Anena’s office area. Anena allegedly responded with profanity during a meeting, resulting in a verbal exchange and reports of a physical brawl being stopped by security personnel.
In response, Ssali suspended Anena, accusing her of exhibiting gross unbecoming behavior, including abusive language, assault, and insubordination.
The suspension letter outlined Anena’s alleged actions and stated that she would receive half of her basic salary during the suspension period.
Anena was instructed to refrain from entering the office premises except for matters related to her case and was given seven working days to respond to the allegations.
Nansikombi defended Ssali’s actions, stating that the ministry had undertaken a reorganization to accommodate the new demands, which involved relocating staff and offices. She claimed that Anena was the only staff member who refused to comply and resorted to using abusive language against the management. Nansikombi emphasized that no physical assault occurred and accused Anena of attempting to use media blackmail against Ssali.
The ministry also reported the matter to the police, citing criminal aspects, and announced its intention to comprehensively investigate the incident.
Anena faces further disciplinary action pending the outcome of the investigation.
