President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will today evening at 8pm address the nation about the current Covid-19 situation in Uganda.

The President recently issues guidelines and institutes a partial lockdown but the persistent rise in Covid-19 cases and deaths might prompt him to introduce tougher measures.

The President made the revelation today morning via his official twitter handle.

“Fellow Countrymen, Countrywomen, Bazukulu, I will address the country TODAY at 8:00pm on a number of issues but mostly the COVID-19 situation,” he tweeted.

He called upon Ugandans to tune in to the different radio & TV stations for this address.

The address comes at a time Uganda is facing a surge in Corona virus positive cases and related deaths even though the country is in a partial lockdown. According to the ministry of health, results of COVID-19 tests done on 15 June 2021 confirmed 1,584 new cases bringing the cumulative confirmed cases are 67,215.

The country also suffered 34 new Covid-19 related deaths on 15th June bring the total of those who have succumbed to the disease to 542 Ugandans.

Former FDC President Dr. Kizza Besigye has called on government to impose a stricter lockdown to curb the spread of the virus since cases continue to increase even though the country is in a partial lockdown.

The DP President Norbert Mao while appearing on NBS TV said that lockdown is a proved method of controlling the spread of such diseases and encouraged the government to impose one.
