Police in Tororo are holding a 25-year-old man for defiling and murdering a one-and-a-half-year-old baby girl after allegedly kidnapping her from a bar at midnight.
The suspect Okongo Gerald, a resident of Asinga “B” village, Malaba Town Council, is in police custody on charges of murder, aggravated defilement and kidnap.
It is alleged that Okongo escaped with the minor identified as Promise Atte from a local bar called ‘Mama Musa’ in Asinga B Zone where she was in the company of her mother, Naziwa Grace, who was drinking.
According to the police spokesperson Fred Enanga, the lifeless body of the deceased was discovered on July 01st, 2023 in a cassava garden in Amagoro central.
“The girl victim was last seen playing with a 2-year-old child on the 30.06.2023 at around midnight, from Mama Musa’s bar, at Asinga B ” Zone, where her mother was drinking from. The following day at around 7:30 am, the body of the 18-month-old victim was found lying dead in a cassava garden ” he said
Enanga says the child was kidnapped from Asinga “B” village, defiled and murdered in the cassava garden. He says her body had vicious physical injuries across, even in her private parts. A pamper with feces was also recovered at the scene.
The suspect was hunted by locals and police with a K9 dog that led them to arrest the suspect.
“As Police, we strongly condemn the vicious physical and sexual assault of the victim. We are going to ensure our Sexual and Gender Based Violence Department, closely follows the matter, to court up to its logical conclusion.” he added
