Arsenal held reigning champions Manchester City to a goalless draw at the Etihad Stadium, allowing Liverpool to claim the top spot in the Premier League’s three-way title race.
Mikel Arteta’s side, aiming for their first league title in two decades, sit second in the table with 65 points, while City trail closely behind in third place with 64 points.
Liverpool’s 2-1 comeback win over Brighton earlier in the day propelled them to the summit with 67 points.
Despite City’s dominance in possession, enjoying 72.2%, and relentless attacks, Arsenal’s solid defensive performance frustrated Pep Guardiola’s men, including the league’s top scorer, Erling Haaland.
The visitors managed to extend their unbeaten league run to nine games and halted City’s streak of eight consecutive home wins at the Etihad. Notably, City, known for their prolific scoring, were limited to just one shot on target, marking the first time in 58 games that they failed to score at home.
Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard expressed satisfaction with the result, stating, “We aimed for all three points, but we’ll settle for one and move forward. We had to defend deeper than preferred, but it was a tough and tight game. With so much at stake in the remainder of the season, we must approach each game with focus and determination.”
