Three individuals, including the site engineer, lost their lives on Wednesday in a new septic tank at Komamboga Central Zone in Kawempe Division, Kampala.

Eyewitnesses reported that the deaths occurred while the trio was working on installing pipes in the septic tank around 11:00 am.

Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson says the chain of events began when one builder entered the tank to lay pipes and did not return. Another colleague descended to check on him but also succumbed to the conditions inside. The site engineer, alarmed by the situation, descended into the tank as well and met a similar fate. The site owner, identified as James Ssaaka, is said to be in shock over the incident.

Onyangosays a response team, led by Kawempe District Police Commander Robert Kuzala, retrieved the bodies around 2:00 pm. He adds that the police have cordoned off the site for investigations into the cause of the deaths.

The deceased bodies have been transported to the city mortuary at Mulago for post-mortem examinations as part of the ongoing investigation into the precise cause of their deaths.
