Three Siblings Drown in Local Dam While Left Unattended

Police are investigating circumstances under which three young children tragically drowned on August 28, 2024, in Biroboka Cell, Kyankwanzi Town Council, Kyankwanzi District.

The victims, all siblings, were identified as Bambozo Sylvia, aged 8, Mugwanya Alex, aged 6, and Namuli Oliva, aged 3. The children were all from the same family, with their father, Ssekiziyivu Patrick, being a resident of Biroboka Cell.

According to SP Racheal Kawala, the Wamala Regional Police Spokesperson, the incident occurred while the children were left unattended. Approximately three years ago, Ssekiziyivu had temporarily relocated his family from Buswabwera Village in Byerima Sub County to Biroboka Cell to work on the farm of Petero Tumushabe.

On August 24, 2024, the children’s mother, Nambozo Noor, left their temporary home in Biroboka to attend to domestic chores back in Byerima Village, leaving the children in the care of their father. On the day of the incident, Ssekiziyivu left the children alone and went to Lubiri Trading Centre in Kyankwanzi District to visit a friend. It was during his absence that the tragic event unfolded.

While still at Lubiri Trading Centre, Ssekiziyivu received the devastating news that his children had drowned in a dam located on Tumushabe’s farm. The police task team quickly responded to the scene, conducting an examination and documenting the site of the tragedy.

In the wake of this incident, authorities are urging parents and guardians to be vigilant and avoid leaving children unattended, even for short periods. This tragic loss serves as a somber reminder of the importance of ensuring the safety and supervision of young children at all times.
