A tragic incident involving a Taxi and Pajero along the Mbale-Sironko road has left in three people dead and eight individuals in critical condition.
The distressing accident happened at approximately 11 am on a Wednesday in Namusi, within Mbale City’s Northern City division.
The victims who lost their lives have been identified as Iddi Isko, a driver hailing from Sironko, Ismail Muyindi, a conductor from Kaduwa village in Sironko, and Hakimu Magombe, a resident of Moon Ward in Mbale City’s Industrial division.
The ill-fated trio were passengers aboard Taxi number UBX 566B, which was en route from Mbale city to Sironko.
Moses Mutabingwe, the Elgon region traffic police officer, confirmed the incident, stating that the tragic collision occurred between their taxi and a Pajero with the registration UBL 027E. He explains that the Pajero was on its way to Mbale town when the two cars collided.
He further reveals that the driver of the Pajero fled the scene after the accident, and their identity remains undisclosed.
Several of the severely injured victims are currently undergoing treatment at Mount Elgon Hospital, while others have been transported to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital for medical attention.
The two vehicles involved in the accident, the taxi and the Pajero, are currently being held at the Central Police Station located in Nakaloke.
